Located high in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Tweetsie Railroad stays about 8 to 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding areas. Pair that natural advantage with plenty of shade, mountain breezes, and smart planning, and you’ve got the recipe for a full day of family fun, without the summer burnout.

Here’s how to make the most of it:

Take a Ride through the Shade

One of the best ways to cool down? Hop aboard our historic steam train and enjoy a breezy ride through the shaded mountain forest. It’s scenic, relaxing, and a favorite way for guests to take a break. Don't forget to watch out for bandits!

When the Sun is High Stick to the Cooler Spots

Some of the most popular areas of the park also happen to be the shadiest:

  • Deer Park Zoo – A shaded walking trail winds through the animal enclosures.
  • Gem Mining – The covered sluice area gives little ones a break from direct sun.
  • Picnic Areas – Bring your lunch or grab a snack and enjoy it under one of our covered picnic areas.
  • Walking Trail – Stretch your legs on the wooded trail between Miners Mountain and Country Fair.

Take in a Show

When it’s time to rest your feet and stay out of the sun, catch one of our live-action shows. The Tweetsie Palace and Miners Mountain Theater offer covered seating and fun, family-friendly performances throughout the day, including Diamond Lil's Can-Can Revue, the Magic Show, Hopper & Porter's Musical Celebration, and the Country Clogging Jamboree. It’s a great way to stay cool and entertained.

Treat Yourself to Something Cold

No summer visit is complete without a sweet treat. Keep cool with:

  • Old-fashioned ice cream
  • Fan-favorite Dippin’ Dots
  • Ice-cold fountain drinks, ICEEs, and bottled water are available at food stands across the park

Be Ready for the Weather

Just a little planning goes a long way. Here’s what we recommend bringing:

  • A refillable water bottle – We’ve got filling stations throughout the park.
  • Lightweight clothing – Breathable fabrics and light colors work best.
  • A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen – Even in the mountains, the sun can sneak up on you.
  • Comfortable shoes – You’ll be walking, riding, and exploring all day.

Want to enjoy summer without feeling worn out by the heat? Tweetsie Railroad offers fresh mountain air, plenty of shade, and something fun around every corner for children, parents, and grandparents alike.

Plan your visit now and see why summer’s better at Tweetsie Railroad.
