Frequently Asked Questions

May School Day is a day in May when the park is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., specifically for school groups to enjoy a day at Tweetsie Railroad with a variety of educational opportunities from the train ride to the Can-can Show!

Yes, when submitting your initial request, include all additional family members in your group total. (While we expect your initial number to change, it is very important to estimate as close as possible as this number is used to limit capacity for each day). Anyone not included in this initial total can still enter the park but will not be guaranteed space on the train ride.

Call 800-526-5740 ext. 108 or email [email protected] with any changes to reservations and box lunches at least one week in advance.

Full payment for your entire group is required in one lump sum using a single form of payment at the time of arrival. We cannot accept split payments (for example, part cash and part credit card). Accepted forms of payment include: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, business checks, or cash.

Parents or family members not included in your group payment may purchase individual tickets at the regular admission price on the day of the visit. However, they are not guaranteed a spot on your group’s train ride and will not be included in your group lunch schedule.

Season Pass holders may bring a photocopy of their pass for free admission.

Parking is free at Tweetsie Railroad.

Buses and vans may drive to the upper parking lot for passenger unloading only. This area is for quick unloading due to heavy traffic and safety concerns. Do not use this area for parent check-in, student check-out, or distributing snacks. All organization should happen inside the park after entry.

After unloading, buses must proceed to the designated bus parking area in the lower parking lot. If your group is bringing lunches, a representative from your group must remain with the bus until our staff arrives to pick up the lunches for delivery to your assigned eating area.

You have three options for lunch during May School Day:

  1. Purchase food at one of our park food venues.
A variety of options are available throughout the park.
  2. Order boxed lunches (for groups of 15 or more).
Boxed lunches must be ordered in advance and finalized at least one week before your visit. For menu options and pricing, call 800-526-5740 ext. 108 or email [email protected].
  3. Bring your own lunches.
Lunches must be prepared by your school cafeteria or brought from home. No outside food deliveries (such as catering or restaurant deliveries) are allowed.

If your group brings lunch, make sure everything is clearly labeled. After unloading, a representative must remain with the bus until our staff picks up your lunches and delivers them to your assigned eating area.

Yes, but the following rules apply:

  • Parents may carry food into the park through the Ticket Office. They may also take food back to their vehicle and re-enter the park by getting a hand stamp.
  • If food is brought into the park, it can stay with the family until their lunchtime, or there is an optional storage area at the Hacienda, but space is shared. Do not leave food unattended before or after lunch. Unattended items disrupt seating for other groups and will be removed.
  • Items must be clearly labeled, and Tweetsie Railroad is not responsible for any items that are unlabeled, mislabeled, or left behind.
  • After eating, all items should be carried out immediately—do not leave food, coolers, or lunch boxes on tables or in common areas.

If you have additional questions, email [email protected] or call 800-526-5740 ext. 108
